HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS

Explore, discover & solve problems through fun & interactive lessons!

Our students develop thinking & reasoning skills in 6 different learning areas, using a unique balance of hands-on experiential learning, challenging puzzles and table work to build focus and attention span.

What types of activities do our students work on and how do they benefit from these activities? How does KUNO method support students as they progress from 3 to 6 years old?

Here are the highlights of one lesson focused on boosting cognitive skills and IQ.

NURSERY 1 (born in 2019)

Building confident individuals starts from a young age!

Have you ever thought of how to help improve your child’s communication and social skills? Teaching them about social etiquette and mannerisms is one effective way!

In this lesson, we worked on developing social skills in our Nursery 1 children with activities involving social etiquette. For instance, when they receive something from their friend, they should say ‘thank you’ politely while the other party acknowledges by saying ‘welcome’.

This important life skill contributes to successful interpersonal relationships, which also involves good mannerism such as showing respect. With this, we also worked on hand dexterity skills by decorating our own ‘Thank You’ card.

As a whole, these skills will help them to communicate and express their emotions better in a school or work setting in the future.

NURSERY 2 (born in 2018)

At this stage, do you still have difficulties differentiating cross-wise and length-wise?

Giving your preschooler a head-start in this challenging concept would be beneficial to them as they move on to primary school.

In this lesson, our Nursery 2 children delve into science, specifically, into fruits and vegetables which they are familiar with. We allow them to grasp the concept of cross sectional images through sensory and hands-on experience!

As they explore and cut the fruits and vegetables by different cross sections, they build on their observation, communication and spatial recognition skills.

Moving forward, this concept helps them to better classify things into broad groups based on similarities and differences, building cognitive flexibility.

KINDERGARTEN 1 (born in 2017)

Do you find your child often saying  “I want to do that because [older brother or sister] is doing it”?

At this young age, children learn to justify their arguments in a social setting. In contrast to the academic context, they often have difficulties in explaining and justifying their reasons.

In this week’s lesson, we worked on deductive reasoning through solving a mini case file. Given clues, our Kindergarten 1 children gather information they get from correctly answering the different parts to questions and draw a conclusion from there.

As they walk through the case one by one, they build a stronger background in logic and reasoning that will help them in understanding complex mathematical theorems where it is most significantly seen.

This will eventually help them with problem solving as it will build critical thinking skills, a vital 21st century skill.

KINDERGARTEN 2 (born in 2016)

In this lesson, we aim to help our Kindergarten 2 children to not only have exceptional cognitive skills, but also be a responsible member of society.

By engaging them in a group discussion to problem solve several scenarios, they develop stronger critical thinking skills.

This serves as an opportunity for children to learn to work with people with different views and learn the appropriate ways to interact. This will help develop their social skills as they learn to listen attentively and speak respectfully during a group discussion.

We also worked on tackling scenarios dealing with moral values. An example would be if your best friend cheated on a test, what should you do? Children will first think of the solution and anticipate what would happen if they were to do it. They will then decide if they should or should not use that solution and think if there is any other way to resolve this problem. They will discuss and  judge if an action is right or wrong based on their own moral values.

General knowledge helps prepare children for unexpected situations, especially in an emergency. Therefore, in this lesson, we touched on emergency contact numbers. Naturally, it helps children be more aware of their environment and learn how to interact within the environment they live in.
