HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

Explore, discover & solve problems through fun & interactive lessons!

Our students develop thinking & reasoning skills in 6 different learning areas, using a unique balance of hands-on experiential learning, challenging puzzles and table work to build focus and attention span.

What types of activities do our students work on and how do they benefit from these activities? How does KUNO method support students as they progress from 3 to 6 years old?

Here are the highlights of our latest lesson.

Her

NURSERY 1 (born in 2016)

This lesson revisits the six different learning areas covering in Term 6.

Under the setting of a birthday party, we will recall how items can be sorted into different categories (based on similarities and differences), as well as compare between quantities (most, least, ordinal numbers, one-to-one correspondence, addition and subtraction).

Building on the concept of symmetry taught in lesson 6, your child will be introduced to the fundamentals of mathematical division, through the idea of sharing food equally between two, three or four people. Here, your child will also demonstrate his/her fine motor skills when cutting with a pair of scissors.

Lastly, we continue to develop your child’s ability in speaking, reading and spelling, by placing greater emphasis on learning through phonics.

NURSERY 2 (born in 2015)

We use this lesson to recall concepts previously covered in term 6, placing greater emphasis on quantitative comparison, perspective taking and spatial reasoning.

Additionally, we will expose your child to multiple puzzle types – both the familiar and unfamiliar kinds. As your child attempts to figure out how puzzle pieces fit together, he/she will be encouraged to apply problem-solving techniques from one puzzle to the next. Through this process, your child undergoes training to be a more adaptive problem-solver. This will also help reinforce existing visual memory and spatial recognition skills.

Finally, your child will participate in listening comprehension activities – to understand, process and remember auditory information. We have also presented several number stories in this format, as an assessment to his/her arithmetic development.

KINDERGARTEN 1 (born in 2014)

This lesson revisits the six learning areas covered this term.

We first recap on distinguishing a third party’s left from right hand when facing either the same or opposite direction. Your child will then participate in a memory game, following by a traffic junction navigation exercise, containing elements of perspective taking.

Next, we recall fruit/vegetable identification based on cross-sectional images, while differentiating between crosswise and lengthwise images.

Subsequently, your child will be exposed to even more ways in which the idea of arithmetic addition and subtraction are communication through words; and to recall expressing story problems with math equations.

Following which, your child will be tasked to keep track of the 8-piece 3D cube puzzle as it undergoes structural changes  with an added challenge of having to utilise the least possible moves between structures.

Lastly, we revisit the method of relative weight comparison using see-saws as well as ordinal numbering.

KINDERGARTEN 2 (born in 2013)

For this lesson, we have prepared fifteen high-level questions, designed to test your child’s understanding of the important concepts taught in Term 6. Greater emphasis is placed on the method and logical thought process, with hopes that the skills acquired (i.e. problem-solving techniques) will prove useful in the acquisition of new ideas/concepts beyond KUNO.

As endurance training, we encourage your child to complete this 1-hour worksheet within a single sitting. This is in preparation for the primary school transition, where most lessons will be focused on individual table work. During this process, teachers will be able to identify and highlight your child’s cognitive developmental progress, strengths and weaknesses.
